MSc Leadership: personal & professional development

In partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University and the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI), we have developed an innovative new Masters Degree programme in leadership. The aim of the programme is to deliver a masters award that facilitates the development of leadership. This is done with a particular focus on emotional intelligence. We use tried and tested theories alongside outdoor activities, providing the opportunity for participants to learn about leadership whilst trying out the theories in a unique and challenging environment.

This is the only MSc of its type in the UK with a practical focus on improving your leadership abilities. It also incorporates Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma as shorter target awards.

Who is the Programme For?

The development of leadership is a key component of professional development.

These programmes are designed for those working in or towards, a leadership role who:

  • Want to develop professionally as a leader.
  • Want to challenge themselves personally.
  • Want to prepare themselves for future leadership roles.

They are especially relevant for all individuals working in professions where a career path may require them to take on a leadership role.

For example, our academic Partners, the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, have endorsed our Masters Programme as the preferred postgraduate course in Leadership for their members.

Who we are?

My Peak Potential deliver the theory and are the experiential facilitators for the Certificate and Diploma components of this MSc. Our training centre, the Carnegie Alpenrose in the Bavarian Alps provides the location for a range of bespoke activities to meet the needs of individual participants. We draw on more than 50 years of experience in leadership and management roles within the military and on mountaineering expeditions around the world. This provides the MSc programme with unparalleled expertise.

How it works

This unique programme allows you to plan your continuous development around your professional and personal life. The Certificate and Diploma elements of the programme each combine three weekends of study in the UK and a residential week in Bavaria, in addition to independent study.

The Certificate focuses on the development of intrapersonal (leading yourself) aspects of Leadership development, with the Diploma moving to an interpersonal focus (leading others). The Masters award is then completed with research methods and a major independent study, both of which are focused on the further development of some aspect of leadership that is important to the individual and relevant to their professional context.

Our highly qualified and experienced leaders will use a wide range of appropriate summer and winter activities on the residential component of both the Certificate and Diploma. These can be tailored to meet the needs of participants both from the perspective of leadership development and the physical challenges associated with the activities.

Whilst the Alpine environment of Bavaria provides an ideal setting away from the student’s professional context, there are no requirements in terms of previous outdoor experience or levels of fitness.

The modules research is delivered through four weekends and a substantial block of independent study. The theme of the study is subject to negotiation and can be focussed towards the individual participants’ leadership interests.

The Certificate, Diploma or Masters awards in Leadership development can be accessed by individual applicants, through employer sponsorship or via a formal partnership with a professional association or other organisation.
