The Gorge Experience

A short walk through the scented pine forest behind the Carnegie Alpenrose lodge leads you to the head of the stunning Östertal Gorge. With anticipation of what lies ahead you will pick your way along the wooded paths of the Gorge entrance. Here you will be given a full safety briefing by our trainers before starting your adventure under their guidance. From this point you will be faced by a series of exciting team challenges next to fast flowing waterfalls and thrilling zipwires that will speed you across spectacular chasms. You will need to work together to get yourselves and other members of your group back to the comforts of the Carnegie Alpenrose. This activity is also available in the winter when the Gorge is covered in snow and the waterfalls are frozen.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking in Bavaria is the best kept secret in the Alps, with literally hundreds of miles of biking tracks for you to explore and enjoy. Many of these tracks lead right from our doorstep making the Carnegie Alpenrose the perfect base to begin your adventure.
This area provides a great variety of mountain biking to suit all levels including scenic mountain trails and more challenging single track routes. In addition, there are several downhill parks as well as specially designed terrain with technical obstacles and skills parks, all within easy driving distance.
We will organise bike and helmet hire for you, then you can choose to either explore the area by yourselves or hire one of our knowledgeable guides to show you the secrets these mountains hold. Instruction on technical skills to improve your performance is also available.

Walking and Trekking

The trails and tracks leading from the doorstep of our Lodge will take you into some of the most beautiful back-country you can image. Through scented pine forests, rolling grassy alpine meadows, and majestic mountains, trekking allows you to take stock of your surroundings, admire the Alpine flora and fauna and soak up the stunning picture postcard views that this much overlooked area of Bavaria offers.
You can simply use the Lodge as a base to enjoy the mountains under your own steam or book one of our highly qualified trainers to teach you a multitude of mountain skills so you can take care of yourself. Our trainers have taught in these mountains for many years and know them well so you will be in the safest and most knowledgeable hands.

Rock Climbing and Abseiling

The Allgäu region of Bavaria is a superb venue for any climber, with a variety of areas and routes to suit all levels. Whether you are just starting out and want to learn some of the fundamental skills or you are an experienced climber you will not be disappointed here. Should you require tuition our trainers are highly experienced climbing instructors, qualified to teach all levels of rock climbing. This expertise and the fantastic Bavarian climate offer a first class climbing experience.

Klettersteig

Klettersteig, also known by the Italian term of Via Ferrata, is a form of climbing, using permanently fixed wire ropes and ladders for extra safety.

This very safe but exhilarating sport is an amazing way to see the mountains from a viewpoint that would otherwise be inaccessible to all but the most accomplished mountaineers. Clipped onto the wire ropes and secured by your harness, you are able to enjoy the stunning views and the experience of safely climbing higher than you ever imagined. There are many amazing Klettersteig routes in the Bavarian Alps and we are lucky enough to have some of the best within a short distance of the lodge.

Rafting and Kayaking

The crystal clear alpine lakes and beautiful blue-green rivers make kayaking in Bavaria a must. From our Lodge we have access to some of the best waterways in Southern Germany. Whether you want to hear the roar of the white water or glide effortlessly across mirror-like lakes, we have something to suit all abilities. Our highly qualified and experienced trainers will assess your abilities in the still waters of the local lakes before progressing onto moving water and mastering a range of skills.
We can accommodate experienced Kayakers looking to improve on technical skills or those who simply want to enjoy the beautiful waters and mountain views. If you have not tried it before this exciting activity is an incredible way to build strength and fitness, improve your balance, and challenge yourself in a stunning environment.

Skywalk high ropes

The breathtaking high ropes course is incredibly exhilarating and superb for confidence building. Suspended between the two cantilevered towers of the world cup ski jumps in Oberstdorf, this exciting challenge will get the heart beating whatever your ability. With mind blowing views of the Alps as your backdrop and the impressive ski jump stadium tucked away below you, you will experience a unique, world class high ropes course. As you are invited to try "The Flying Fox" and "The Big Swing" you will feel yourself swelling with pride, having gone beyond your boundaries, and all with an endless smile on your face.
This activity is also available in the winter months.

Rodelbahn

The Rodelbahn is an all year round toboggan on rails.Overlooking the mirror-like Alpsee, the Rodelbahn snakes its way down the grassy slopes of the mountain behind it. As you board the two-man chairlift to the top, the excitement starts to build and you are soon sitting at the top in your toboggan, fixing your seatbelt and waiting for the off. You are in total control of the speed (unless you wish to relinquish this to a companion!) during your 5 minute long descent which includes 68 corners, waves, jumps and bridges. See if you can beat the Carnegie Alpenrose record of 4 minutes! This Rodelbahn is open all year round, subject to weather conditions, it is often buried under snow!

Winter Activities

Skiing

This area is a little known gem in the world of Alpine skiing. With a huge variety of runs on hundreds of beautiful and uncrowded slopes the Allgau can boast some of the best ski areas in the Alps. Ski passes are reasonably priced and we have a local ski hire shop in our village that also runs a ski school on their local slope just 300m from the Lodge door. With exclusive discounts to Lodge guests this makes the Carnegie Alpenrose the ideal ski holiday for the whole family. All of our instructors are British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) qualified and can be booked for private and group instruction.

Ski Touring

Come October all of the fencing is removed in the backcountry so you can explore the mountains in total freedom. Ski touring is the perfect way to access this terrain, allowing you to ski on untouched virgin snow and enjoy the sound of silence you only truly get on the summit of a snow covered mountain. Ski touring instruction can be booked through the lodge and avalanche safety training will be included in this tuition. If you can ski blue runs then you can give this thrilling activity a go!

Nordic Skiing

We are very lucky to have some of the best cross country ski tracks in the Allgäu start from just outside our door. There are 15kms of track right here in our valley plus plenty of other stunning routes within a short driving distance. Nordic skiing is a brilliant way to travel around and a superb fitness pursuit with limited impact on your joints. Please click here to see more about our courses. We are a Centre of Excellence for British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) Nordic Skiing and offer accredited courses throughout the winter. Independent instruction for all levels is also available.

Telemark Skiing

Also known as free heel skiing, this impressive and elegant discipline allows the skier to adapt to varying terrain on and off piste more easily. Its increasing popularity and new cult status in today's skiing industry has led to a demand for good telemark instruction. Here at My Peak Potential, Telemarking is the preferred ski technique amongst our trainers who are all British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) qualified and so we can offer top class tuition in this ever growing activity.

Snow-Shoeing

Snow shoes are one of the best and oldest forms of transport to get around the outdoors in winter conditions. Long gone are the days of tennis rackets tied to the feet! This ever growing backcountry skill is now performed on lightweight plastic shoes. Tied on over waterproof walking boots, they take little instruction to use and before long you will be walking on top of the pristine fluffy snow with just a pair of walking poles to aid your balance.
Snow shoes allow you to traverse areas of deep snow giving you greater freedom to explore the mountains. Anyone can take part in this activity, making it a great group or family activity.

Sledging

The sledge run is just 500m from the lodge and starts with a short walk into the Alpine foothills that surround us. Don your walking boots and a woolly hat and step out into the crisp winter air. Then, take a leisurely stroll up the pisted track, take in some amazing views and breathe the clean air of the Bavarian mountains deep into your lungs. At the top of the ascent there is a traditional Alpine mountain hut where you will be rewarded for your efforts with refreshments and a chance to marvel at yet more stunning scenery before embarking on an exhilarating sledge descent all the way back down to the lodge.

Snow-holing

Imagine digging your very own home for the night. Armed with a shovel and with guidance from our mountain specialists you will crunch through the virgin snow into the back-county behind the Lodge. Here you will be taught a few basic survival skills and then get to work crafting the perfect haven from the cold lick of winter outside. As you bed down for the night, having handcrafted a bed, a shelf for your candle and one for your personal effects, you will soon be lulled into a deep sleep. This adventure is second to none and has to be experienced to be believed. It can be added to one of the above activities and is a must for your winter adventure tick list!
